My Bleeding Heart
More than my life do I adore my little heart,
Without it I do not know where to start.
He came like the dawn into my life,
He went away without making me his wife.
Since then there has been no respite my heart bled,
It has been bleeding tear drops of blood into my bed.
So bleeding heart of mine please do not forget the night,
When he said his fateful goodbye & ran away out of sight.
No one had thrust a spear into my lonely red heart,
Yet it’s scarred with wounds since we’ve been apart.
I stain my whole life now with bright red blood,
You cut me with your love so sharp the redness came in flood.
My heart I thought was strong so I tested it with love,
It proved fragile it was glass as tender as a dove.
You broke it with your going & now this little heart of mine is bleeding,
I toss at night without sleep penetrating my eyes except the sobs that I cry weeping.
I have been mutilated by your love so sweet,
But here is my heart that your lies have cut so neat.
What is love but a short spell of fruitless ecstasy,
It cut me in pain when you went away & now I live in misery.
O my bleeding heart please stop your flow,
O heart hurt you are yes I know.
But the person you seek is so long gone,
Therefore wipe away your ruddy tears as we arise to a new dawn.
