When You Were There With Me
By Fiza Pathan
When you were there with me, the breeze forgot to breathe itself over the evergreen trees
When you were there with me, for the briefest moment, I could count all the blood red drops that entered my aching heart
When you were there with me, I was speechless in a crowd of babble only silence could comprehend
When you were there with me, the earth seemed like heaven with a dash of pixie dust in my vacant stare
When you were there with me, I could never get enough of your voice resonating tenderly into my yearning ears
When you were there with me, the raven was a falcon and the sky was my ground upon which I glided into the night of magical feathers.
But now you aren’t here anymore, so this poor soul has to linger with the tide that dashes upon the rocks of my heavy laden chest
Why did you have to go? No answers, no questions and no replies to my unearthly cry.
However much I try, your memory is still impaled within my body and the pain remains till my thoughts rot in the darkness
Blood flows from my cuts-yet I’m quiet as the dew that saunters towards the green leaf in the early hours of the morning.
You were my all-but you left me behind and now I sing to your reflection in my looking-glass eyes … the time is lost when you were with me.
